So, Apparently I’m Being Freshly Pressed…Do I Bring Out the Good China?

I’ve been in a little bit of a funk lately when it comes to my writing. I have been writing plenty, but I’m putting off editing. I have so much editing to do, it’s ridiculous. The blog has become one of my favorite things, when I have something to write about.

So I was pretty shocked when I checked my email this afternoon to find an email from WordPress telling me my last post had been selected for Freshly Pressed. I thought it was spam. After all, why would they pick me?

I’m assuming it’s legit, but I’m starting to panic a little. There’s going to be people reading this stuff. I mean, you guys who already read it are people, but you know what I mean…I mean, does WordPress know a few posts ago I wrote about Dean Martin’s ode to masturbating to underage girls?

Now I have all these thoughts in my head – do I need to do anything to the blog? Spruce it up, so to speak? I feel like when you get short notice that you’re having company on a Tuesday night, and there are dirty dishes in the sink and unfolded laundry laying around. I am not really sure what to expect. I guess we’ll see what happens…

  1. Hi there!
I’m glad your previous post was selected for Freshly Pressed – WordPress made a great choice!
It was interesting and I liked the outcome. Simple conversations are indeed, being forgotten in the ever increasing tech world. When actually, they’re pretty valuable..
    Thank you.
    Regards, ZB
    🙂

  2. Don’t change anything! The best blogs have that ‘lived in’ look. I like blogs that take me by surprise – just when you’re about to say ‘oh, it’s one of those blogs’, you see a post and get a ‘what the…?’ moment. Well done on the FP too.

    1. Thank you very much! It looks like I’m going to enjoy you blog as well. And I can almost guarantee if you root around here enough, you’ll probably find a post that will catch you by surprise.

  3. Enjoy the ride. Everything will skyrocket for a day or two (likes, readers, followers, e-mails) and then it’ll calm down. And you can also find “Featured On Freshly Pressed” logos to put up on your site — now you’re entitled! 🙂

  4. Congrads on being freshly pressed. I am curious at what point did that happen? Did you reach a plateau or pay a fee or what? Continue writing you have talent. And thanks for reading a couple of my blogs, I do appreciate it.

    1. It was completely out of the blue. I just started my blog back in February, and am still getting the hang of it. I have a hard time thinking of things to write about sometimes, and thought I could turn the power outage into a post. I published it last Tuesday, and the usual dozen or so people read it. Friday I got the email saying it had been picked for Freshly Pressed, and Sunday it was on the page. Definitely didn’t pay anything…I was barely willing to cough up the $13 to register the domain name. 🙂 So apparently they just scour WordPress for content at random.

      1. Thank you for the information. I know what you mean about what to blog about. Some things I thought would be absolutely read is barely looked at and then I do a fluff piece and everyone likes it. If you get chance look at Obituary which I believe is a good piece and then read Regrets which is a fluff piece. The fluff piece got more reads. I can not figure it out.

  5. You deserved it! Sometimes it is the most random things that others appreciate most. You’re a talented writer and it looks like everyone (including myself) is enjoying your posts 🙂 Great job.
